Do Christians Shut Out the Light of?

Who, or what, is the “Light of God’s Truth?” The apostle John tells us in the Injil that Isa Al-Masih is the “Light of the world” (John 8:12). The Injil also teaches that Isa is “the radiance of God’s glory” (Hebrews 1:3). So what is God’s Truth? Is it separated from God’s Light?

God’s Truth According to Islam

Muslims believe that the truth is Allah. “God is the Supreme Truth and whatever they worship instead of Him is falsehood. God is most Exalted and most Great” (Qs 22:62). Allah is the Almighty, Creator and Sustainer of the Universe. “God is the Creator and Guardian of all things” (Qs 39:62). Allah is also One. “… He, Allah, is One. Allah is He on Whom all depend. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And none is like Him” (Qs 112:1-4).

God’s Truth according to Christianity

Isa Al-Masih told His followers, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me” (Injil, John 14:6). Why did Isa say, “I am the… truth?” Well, Isa is one with Allah. “I and the Father [Allah] are One” (Injil, John 10:30). Because His Father is the truth, Isa is also the truth. “… the Son [Isa] can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, that the Son also does” (Injil, John 5:19). Nothing Isa does is apart from the Father.

Isa is God’s Truth and God’s Light

Isa, God’s truth, is also God’s light. The Injil teaches that He is the light of the world. “… ‘I [Isa] am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (Injil, John 8:12).

This verse seems to agree with a verse in the Quran. “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth… Allah guides to His light whom He wills…” (Qs 24:35). Can we say that God will guide those whom He wills to His light, Isa Al-Masih? Whoever is in Isa, God’s light, will see God.

No Man Can Shut Out the Truth

God’s light is too powerful to be shut out. Therefore, Christians cannot shut out the Light of God’s Truth. When they talk about Isa, they make a way for the Light of God’s Truth to shine brightly. Isa’s death and resurrection have broken the barrier between Allah and mankind. Whoever believes and invites the Light into his life can come directly to Allah. Allah will forgive him and give him eternal life. “…who believe in the name of the Son of God… you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:13-14).

Isa clearly said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”
