For many people around the world, Christmas is their favorite holiday. Special decorations are put up both inside and outside of the house. Special foods are eaten and traditions are kept. Christmas carols are sung and families gather. But Christmas is much more than just a fun holiday. Christmas is the celebration of Hz. Isa Mesih (Jesus the Messiah) coming to earth.
Just as many people wait for Christmas all year, the birth of Jesus was long awaited by those who had studied the Tevrat and the Prophets. From the very beginning, Allah promised One who would come to save us from our sins and bring us back into a relationship with God.
Prophecies About Hz. Isa Mesih
– Made and Fulfilled
We know that Jesus was the Promised One because every prophecy given about His birth was fulfilled. We will consider just a few of the prophecies given about Hz. Isa Mesih.
Both the Injil and the Quran tell us that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a virgin. Qs. 19:20 says, “How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?” Matthew 1:23 also says, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.”
The prophet Isaiah foretold this. Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
The prophet Micah foretold that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:1-2). Luke gives the account of this fulfillment, as well as the fulfillment that Jesus would be from the House of David (Jeremiah 23:5; 2 Samuel 7:13). “In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world… And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby (Hz. Isa Mesih) to be born” (Injil, Luke 2:1-6).
God’s Perfect Plan of Salvation
You may be asking, why were all of these prophecies made about Isa? And why did He fulfill all of them?
The reason is because man is separated from God because of his sin (Isaiah 59:2). God wants mankind to walk in close communion with him just as Adam and Eve did before they sinned.
God requires payment for sin. Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death.” Because of our sin, we deserve death! So, God sent Jesus into the world as a baby. For His first 30 years, Jesus’ life wasn’t much different from the rest of the people around Him, except that He was sinless. Qs. 19:19 says, “He said: I am only a messenger of your Lord: That I will give you a pure boy.” Isa Al-Masih was “tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).
Around age 30, though, Jesus began performing amazing acts: giving sight to the blind, making the lame walk and bringing the dead back to life.
Christ Was Born to Die!
Hz. Isa Mesih’s greatest act was His death, becoming the payment for our sin so that we can walk again with God. Three days later, Hz. Isa Mesih came back to life. He is now in heaven at the “right hand of the Father” (Acts 2:33).
IHz. Isa Mesih was born to die! “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Injil, Matthew 1:21). This is why Christmas is so important, and why it is celebrated all over the world!
